He was predeceased by: his parents, Peggy Stern and Ewald Stern; his son Cole Stern; and his brother Lee Stern. He is survived by: his wife Deborah Kinlund; his daughters, Heidi Miller (Jeff) of Goodhue, Brigette Rol (Jack) of Lake City, Gretel Stern of Prishtina, Kosovo and Meta Olson (Jon) of Zumbrota; his grandchildren, Darby, Atticus, Rhett, Beatrix Miller, Carl, Sam, Margaret Rol, Vernon, Scarlett, Gregory Olson and Stern Greg Nixon; his sister Carol Evers (Norbert); and his siblings-in-law, Bruce Kinlund, Sharon Stern, Sheila Schmitt (Jim) and Lisa Comstock (Tim). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family will be using memorial gifts to fund accessible seating for senior citizens at the Goodhue High School gymnasium.
