He was predeceased by: his parents, Ewald and Alma; his siblings, Melvin "Mel" Schmidt and Carol Wardall; and his daughter Susan Mae.
He is survived by: his wife Rose (Rydberg); his children, Elizabeth Matzke (Todd) of Hastings, MN, Sara Schmidt Boldon (Christopher) of St. Paul, MN and Paul Schmidt (Laura) of Red Wing, MN; and his grandchildren, Nolan, Caleb, Nathan, Emma and Aleia.
Visitation was held on Saturday, November 29th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church (2901 US-169, Grand Rapids, MN 55744). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, November 29th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
