He is survived by: his wife Sonja Smesmo; his children, Nancy (Steve) and Jeffrey Smesmo (Roxann); and his sisters, Patty Anderson (Leslie), Karen Boesch and JoAnn Hendrickson. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren.
