He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Nelson and Victoria Nelson; his former wife Mary; his brothers, Alan and Clemens Nelson; his daughter Paula Zotalis (James); and his stepdaughter Kathryn Peterson.
He is survived by: his wife Diane Cooper Nelson; his children, Jonathan Nelson (Anodea Judith), Elizabeth Pasch (Juan) and Martha Burrer (Bill); his stepson Steve Peterson; his grandchildren, Anna Ahrens, Peter Zotalis, Rachel Zotalis, Nicola Viana, Skot McConnell, Lauren Loomis, Adam Loomis and Alison Loomis; and his stepgrandchildren, Nick, Bryan, Tom Pasch, Brandon, Blythe, Blaine Burrer, Jacob and Zachary Peterson. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren.
Preferred memorials are to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Mayo Clinic or Young Life.
