He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles "Charley" Sands and Florence Sands; his wife Susan Sands (Fossum); and his siblings, Wilbur, Duane Sands and Doris Nodland.

He is survived by: his daughters, Kristyn Jacobson (Matt) of Kenyon and Heidi Gusenius (Mikkel) of Minnetrista; his grandchildren, Bryan, Colin Jacobson, Rylan and Marika Gusenius; and his brother-in-law Robert Fossum.

Visitation was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, September 19th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church - Aspelund (42957 County 1 Blvd, Kenyon, MN 55946).

Ray received numerous honors for his contributions to polka music and his community.
