Gary Fred Sopeth went home to Jesus on Friday, March 18, 2022 at age 72, comfortable and peaceful in his own home with his family around him. He was born to parents John and Catherine on March 5, 1950 in Minneapolis, MN. Gary was blessed to grow up in a home steeped in Ukrainian culture and traditions and spent memorable times with his beloved extended family.
Gary was a graduate of Patrick Henry High School and the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in Fine Art. He enjoyed a long career as a Design Engineer. Gary loved any outdoor activity including skiing, skating, cycling, backpacking, fishing and camping with his friends. Gary married his wife Laura, in 1980 in Minneapolis and went on to have three children, Matthew, Joshua, and Hannah. He was a devoted and loving father and husband and loved reading, woodworking, coaching sports, vacationing, kayaking, sailing, camping, fishing and spending time with his family. Throughout his life, he held an unwavering faith in God, loved his church family and his Men’s Group.
Gary joins his mother and father in Heaven. He is survived by his wife Laura, their three children, Matthew, Joshua, and Hannah, his dog, Rudy and his brother Mark and wife, Laura, and nephews, Aaron and Kevin. He is also survived by many beloved family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the family's church, South Metro Vineyard Church (13798 Parkwood Dr. Burnsville, MN. 55337) on Thursday, April 7, 2022. Visitation will start at 10am, followed by a Service at 11am and lunch following the service.
