He was predeceased by: his parents, James Lyle Jr. and Margaret Katherine Spear; and his siblings, Leslie Spear, Larry Spear, Sue Eidell and Patricia Sharar.

He is survived by: his significant other Catherine; his sons, Greg Spear (Mary) of Flower Mound, TX and Jeff Spear (Lori) of Chanhassen, MN; his grandchildren, Andrew, Madelyn, Hannah, Ryan and Lauren; and his brothers, James Jr. Spear and Reynold Spear.
