He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Phillips and Nellie Jo Phillips (Guthrie); and his siblings, Richard "Dick", Reynold and Nancy Combs.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara; his children, Melody Wald (Tom Deer) and Darrin (Theresa); his grandchildren, Domonique Budensiek (Ben), Ross Wald and Tayva Young; his sister Marie Lovdahl (Ted, Jr.); and his stepsister Helen Mord.
