He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Engel and Verna Engel (Burke); his wife Naomi Larsen; his siblings, Ralph Engel, Marion Lechner and Verona Semrad; and his great grandchild Claire Naomi Wippler.

He is survived by: his children, Lola Engel-Faufau (Jack), Stephen Engel (Kristan), Daniel Engel and Gwen Welinski (Matt); his grandchildren, Katie Wippler (Nick), Luke Faufau (Asha), Marre, Lindy, Joey Welinski, Samuel, David and Elizabeth Engel; his great grandchildren, Lydia, Norah, Benjamin Wippler and Winnie Faufau; his brother Dale Engel (Melva); and his brother-in-law John Larsen.
