He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Gottwalt and Marie Gottwalt (Eisenschenk); his wife Teresa "Terry" Gottwalt; his siblings, Virgil Gottwalt and Mary Jo Loscheider; and his brothers-in-law, Larry Haines, Gerald Boser of Pierz and Dennis Murphy.
He is survived by: his children, Joy Schlichting (James) of Pierz, Edward "Shawn" (Ruby) of Little Falls, Paul of Pierz and Jody (Terri Krych) of Little Falls; his siblings, Louis Gottwalt (Eileen) of Shoreview, Virginia Haines of Hudson, WI, Margaret Murphy of Sauk Rapids, Linnea Sakry (Dick) of Rice and Kathleen Weiss (Gerald) of San Antonio, TX; his siblings-in-law, Al Loscheider of Pierz, Gerhard Boser (late Mary) of Pierz and Diann Boser; and his pet Tinker. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery or St. Mary's Catholic Church.
