He is survived by: his wife Karen Young; his children, Stacy Virnig (Brent Estes), Todd Gerwing (Katie), Jason Gerwing (Nicole) and Jessica Gerwing; his grandchildren, Olivia Virnig, Julie, Emily, Carie, Derek, Shaunacy, Hanna, Rowan and Adler Gerwing; and his siblings, Karen Kuchinski, Janey Gerwing, Dean Hanson and Rick Hanson.

“I am so sorry to hear about “Booky”. My prayers for all of his family and friends that they may find comfort in the memories they have been given over the years. Booky was a good man. I am happy to have been able to work with him at Tri City Paving and Knife River. I was able to chat with him over the radio with him numerous times and listen to some of the on going conversations. It made some of the long days a little more interesting. He will surely be missed by many.”
