He was predeceased by : his parents, John Sr. Hup and Annie Hup (Fikse); his wife Alvina Hoogeveen; his son Steven; his brother Dick; and his sister-in-law Gert Hup.
He is survived by : his children, Ken Hup (Sue) of Luverne, Dave Hup (Teresa) of Luverne and Debbie Hup Larsen (Russ) of Sioux Falls; his grandchildren, Andrea Kovarna (Dusty), Lindsay Ruda (Steve), Mitch Hup (Sara), Breanne Haller (Jesse), Matt Hup (Cori), Daniel Hup (Maria), Michael Hup (Rebecca) and Bethany Tilstra (Cory); his siblings-in-law, Shirley Hoogeveen of Brandon, Inez Hoogeveen of Le Mars, Iowa, Alvin and Don Hoogeveen; and also, Art Hoogeveen (Carol) of Prior Lake and Ray Hoogeveen (Joan) of Luverne. He is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren.
