He was predeceased by: his parents, John Schaaf and Harriet Vander Schaaf (Vermeer); his son Delmar; his granddaughters, Janelle Vander Schaaf and Kimberly Vander Schaaf; his siblings, Wilma Schelling (Gilbert), James Vander Schaaf (Betty), Henrietta Vander Broek (Bud), Audrey Van Grouw (Ken), Wayne Vander Schaaf (Sharon) and Delbert Vander Schaaf (Elda); and his brother-in-law Ed Zomermaand.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Vander Schaaf of Hardwick; his children, Gloria Smith of Rochester, Gary Vander Schaaf (Karen) of Edgerton, Darlene Kasten (William) of Waterloo, Lorraine Johnson (Eric) of Mora, Larry Vander Schaaf (Barb) of Buckeye, Melvin Vander Schaaf (Paula) of Apple Valley and Harriet Kielty (Tom) of Elk River, Minnesota; and his siblings, Herlon Vander Schaaf (Joan) of Sioux Center, June Driesen (Harold) of Hull, Roger Vander Schaaf (Charlotte) of Woodstock, Helen Statema (Don) of Orange City and Arlys Zomermaand of Sioux Center. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.
