He was predeceased by: his parents, William C. Blethen and Corol "Toy" Blethen; his wife Mary Jane; and his siblings, Nan Rosenstein, Jane Blethen, Pamela Pike and Peter Blethen.
He is survived by: his children, Wendy of Minneapolis, MN and Bill (Sandy) of Arlington Heights, IL; his sisters-in-law, Nancy Blethen of Madison Lake, MN, Karri Hansen (Eric) and Stephanie Freudenthal of Edina, MN; his grandchildren, Bailey (Liesl), Jeff, Alex Blethen (Katrina) and Tess Helgeson; and his great grandchildren, Olivia, Bailey "Liam" and Roy Blethen. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, his life-long friends.
