He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerhard Mertesdorf and Veronica Mertesdorf; and his siblings, Jerry Mertesdorf, Gene Mertesdorf, Leon Mertesdorf and Carol Christenson.
He is survived by: his children, April Rothe (Christian), Nick Mertesdorf (Val) and Kristy Willis (Matt); and his brothers, John Mertesdorf and Glenn Mertesdorf. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, May 16th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Loose Moose Saloon & Conference Center (119 S Front St, Mankato, MN 56001).
