He was predeceased by : his father George Hellvig Sr.; and his uncle Cyriel Vierstrate (Lilly Vierstrate). He is survived by : his mother Joyce Wigton (Dandurand) of Marshall; his brother George Hellvig Jr. of Bliss, NY; his half-sister Vicke Hanenberger Parke of Pike, NY; his nephew Zachary Gates-Hellvig; his niece Kelsie Gates-Hellvig; and his aunts, Joann Hellvig-Gould of Marshall and Lillian Vierstrate of Marshall. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family for use at a future designation.
