He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Schaefer and Mary Schaefer (Hueve); and his siblings, Hilda Weber, Leona Trattles, Gerald Schaefer and Norbert Schaefer.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Catherine Leither; his children, Jeffery Schaefer of New Munich and Dorie Ahmad (Schaefer) of St. Louis, Missouri.; his grandchildren, Becca Weber-Borgerding, Kristin Weber, Becca Schaefer, Maddy Schaefer, Nicole Schaefer and Mikey Schaefer; his great grandchildren, Amelia, Ella Borgerding and Luella Barkley; and his pet Charlie.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 17th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Thursday, September 18th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home (418 Fifth Ave SE, Melrose, MN 56352). A rosary was held on Wednesday, September 17th 2025 at 6:30 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, September 18th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church (20 MN-4, Melrose, MN 56352).
