He was predeceased by: his parents, John and Petra (Maxine); and his sons, David L. John, Bob and S. Marine Corps.

He is survived by: his granddaughter Malia Weinhagen; his great grandchildren, Shelby, Duncan, Agatha and Birgit Weinhagen; his sister Jeanette Buck; his sibling's children, Kirsten Buck May and Arne Buck; and his cousin Gunnar Holt.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers Memorials to Mindekirken, the Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church, and the Shriner Children's Hospital, Twin Cities.
