She was loved and cherished by many people including : her parents, Anna Bechik and Joseph Bechik; her husband John Mecom; her stepson Jonathan; her sisters, Janet Machyowsky and Alice Woog (Jim Ebner); and her nieces and nephews, Paul Machyowsky (Samira), Nicholas Woog (Julia), Christina Machyowsky and Mary Herzak (Michael). She was also cherished by 4 grandnieces and 3 grandnephews.

Memorials preferred to Children's Minnesota and St. Mary's Orthodox Cathedral.

“Dear John and family. I have known Mary since 1976 when I was a 3rd year medical student at Minneapolis Childrens through being her boss before we both retired. She was the eyes and ears of Childrens and knew everyone and everything about the organization that she helped open in 1973. She was always respectful of physicians but always told it like it was and would not tolerate people who didn’t uphold the values of Childrens. She is one of the great Founders of the hospital,I will miss her.Phil”
