He is survived by : his wife Jeanne Johnson; his children, Michael Hemstad (Laurel), Joel Hemstad (Deb) of St Paul and Marcia Haley (Jerome) of Waseca; his grandchildren, Caitlin Hemstad (Ben Davidson), Sean Hemstad, Christopher Hemstad (Laura), Andrew Haley (Matti Martin), Sarah Hemstad and Kyle Hemstad; and his brother Peter Hemstad.
