He was predeceased by : his parents, A. E. Smith and Inez Woltjer (Nunn); and his son Terry. He is survived by : his wife Judi Smith of Montevideo; his daughter Pam Swanson (John) of Makinen; and his grandchildren, Jake Crowley, Caitlyn McLain, Sierra Sky McLain and Kira McLain. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
