He was predeceased by: his parents, Tony Russ and Mary Russ (Mehelich); his brother Anthony James Russ; his parents-in-law, Alfred and Olga Berndt; and his niece Caroline Hirschman.

He is survived by: his wife Jeanne of Montgomery; his children, Kathryn Sprenger (Daniel) of Sartell and Gregory Russ (Vicki) of Arlington, WA; his grandchildren, Ryan, Danyka Sprenger, Brenna Russ, Veronica Paul (Jacob), Catrina Shipley (Nathaniel), Anthony Russ, Dayne Russ, Lilibeth, Jesse, Anton, Peter and Kamryn; his great grandchild Jasper Shipley; and his siblings-in-law, Charlotte Russ, Dianne Berndt-Conners, Gayle Berndt and Roger Berndt (Debbie). He is also survived by many cousins, other relatives, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Bill to St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery.
