He was predeceased by : his parents, Agnes Messelt (Hogenson) and Ole D. Messelt; his sisters, Beulah, Aileen and Florence; and also, Orville and Myron.

He is survived by : his wife Sharon Knudson; his brother Roy Messelt; his children, Patrick (Sara), Lorri (Terge) and Dan (Natalie); his grandchildren, Lise (Viggo), Thomas Ole (Marit), Audrey (Sathi) and Max; and his great grandchildren, Saga, Nore, Liv and Miles.
