She was predeceased by : her parents, Stanley Houdek and Irene Houdek (Goblish); her husband Eugene Schafer; her daughter Mona Balcer; her brother Ed Houdek; and her siblings-in-law, Lorraine Houdek-Kohout, Mary Houdek and Ronald Revier.

She is survived by : her children, Debb Balcer of Redwood Falls, Scott Balcer of Cedar Park, TX, Troy Balcer (Gayle) of Edina, Jason Schafer (Jennifer) of Crosby and Vonnie Schaufler (Kyle) of Olivia; her grandchildren, Kayla Balcer, Anthony Gerdes, Chris McCormick, John Balcer, Madeleine, MacAllister Balcer, Tyler Gettel, Corbin, Chloe, Natalie Schafer, Katherine Schafer, Logan Egge, Gavin, Ava Hammerschmidt and Weston Schaufler; and her siblings, Margaret Meuhlberg, Marie Revier, Henry Houdek, Rita Healy (Charlie), Diane Haney (Dick), Dottie Elfering (Jim), Rosemary Woelfel (Michael) and Don Houdek. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
