He was predeceased by: his father Duane "Tiny" Schafer; and his brother Scott Schafer. He is survived by: his mother Shirley Schafer (Borderud); his wife Connie Nelson-Schafer; his children, Tyler Schafer, Ashlynn and Haylee Schafer; his stepson Wesley Nelson; his granddaughter Vienna; and his siblings, Mike Schafer (Karina) and Jill Weigel (Louie). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
