He was predeceased by: his parents, Math Schmidtbauer and Mary Schmidtbauer (Hoheisel); and his siblings, Larry Schmidtbauer, Melvin Schmidtbauer, Alan Schmidtbauer and Lois Zimmerman.
He is survived by: his children, Dori Hayes (Tim) and Donna Hayes; his grandchildren, Nicole Moberg (Aaron), Paige Hayes, Aaron Hayes, Autumn Hayes, Emmylou Keehr (Joe), Russell Hayes and Randy Hayes; his great grandchildren, Walter, Maisie Moberg, Cheyenne and Hailey Keehr; his siblings, Lorae Vardas, Carol Hamann (Norman) and Alban Schmidtbauer (Donella); and his sister-in-law Bernadette Schmidtbauer. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions will be directed towards the purchase of a memorial bench to be placed at the Dalton Threshing Show, a place Leon loved to visit.
