He was predeceased by: his parents, Nellie Peterson and Marvin Peterson; his wife Eva; his son Scott; his siblings, Don Peterson (Velma), Mavis Hegstrom (Eldon) and Jean Kleen (Don); and his siblings-in-law, Bob Taylor (Eleanore), Alice Katheryn Shaw (Gilbert), Ralph Taylor (Carole) and Don Taylor.
He is survived by: his daughters, Loni Porta and Kim Terhaar; his grandchildren, Brittany Werner (Phillip), Tyler Johnson (Kristine), Tanner Johnson (Stephanie), Dallas Peterson, Molly Landowski (Mike) and Megan Geisler (Brody); his great grandchildren, Reid, Will, Eva, Everly, Daisy, Gabriel, Dominic, Hayden, Luke and Elias; and his siblings-in-law, Denny Taylor (Vonnie), Jerry Taylor (Phyllis) and Beverly Taylor. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
He won a scholarship through the National Science Foundation to the University of South Dakota and took classes at the University of Minnesota with it all culminating in both Bachelor and Master's of Education degrees.
