He was predeceased by: his parents, Siemen Smidt and Bertha Smidt (Bartels); his wife Gloria Smidt; his siblings, Wally Smidt (Jeanette), Myrna Borman (Clarence), Marvella Zarn (Bud) and Lorraine Scheerhorn (Leland); his parents-in-law, Joseph and Helga Suda; and his brother-in-law Don Suda (Betty).
He is survived by: his children, Julie Steffen (Joe) of Hartford, Linda Vos (Shane) of Pipestone and Doug Smidt (Deb) of Trosky, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Brittany Heidebrink (Cody), Gavin Smidt (Lauren), Austin Westly (Samantha), Halie Schaap (Wyatt), Cole Vos, David Steffen (Becca), Bobbie Jo Reznicek (Tyler), Samantha Steffen, Brett VanMeeteren (Laura), Kaitlyn Van Peursem (Tyson), Melanie Johnson (Nic) and Hope Curry (Brayden); his great grandchildren, Rowan, Boyer, Brantley, Ryker, Josie, Huxley, Opal, Eli, Lenox, Lottie, Aiden, Emma, Theo, Collins, Barrett, Miles, Vivianne and Eden; and his sister Dorothy Kueker (Ted) of Rochester, Minnesota. He is also survived by many nieces & nephews; and friends.
He had a huge heart and gave contributions to many non-profit organizations and to the church.
