She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, John Meyer and Mary Meyer (Price); her husband Lawrence Gorter; her children, Kathy Goodwin (Barry) of Arlington, SD, Rick Gorter (Kim) of Dayton, MN, Lori Heilman (Dave) of Sioux Falls, SD, Jim Gorter (Jan) of Egan, SD and Don Gorter (Sonja) of Shakopee, MN; her parents-in-law, Clarence, Dee Gorter of Sioux Falls, SD, Jerry, Bonnie Gorter of Sioux Falls, SD and Kathy Gorter of Midland Park, NJ.; her son David; and her granddaughter Tina Heilman. She was also cherished by five grandsons; seven granddaughters; 15 great-grandchildren.

In 1993, her beloved Lawrence was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Helen was a pillar of strength in the following 12 years until his death in 2005.
