He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Backer and Wilma Backer (Willroth); his in-laws, Bev and Bill Baker; his sister Marlis Jones (Don); his nephew Greg Backer; and his sister-in-law Nancy Backer.
He is survived by: his wife Jeanne Backer; his daughters, Carrie Backer and Stephanie Backer; his grandson Darius Backer of Pipestone, MN; and his brothers, Don Backer of Pipestone, MN and Jerry Backer of Brandon, SD.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 12th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Peace Methodist Church (500 7th St SE, Pipestone, MN 56164).
