He was predeceased by: his son Brett Kirgis; his parents, Ludwig Kirgis and Elaine Kirgis (Stucki); his in-laws, Milo and Phyllis Berndt; his siblings, Avon Gille and Gary Kirgis; his brother-in-law Frederick Heimberg; and his niece Connie Dose.

He is survived by: his wife Penny Berndt; his daughter Lisa Belknap (Justin); his grandchildren, Milo, Eloise Mudra, Finn and Rhys Belknap; his siblings, Avis Jackson (Emery), Rosemary Heimberg and Ross Kirgis (Pam); and his siblings-in-law, Linda Kirgis, Dan Berndt (Sandy) and Rocky Berndt (Kathleen Lynch). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
