It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joyce Irene Newman of Rochester, Minnesota, born in Westbrook, Minnesota, who passed away on July 30, 2021, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Hugo Schmalz and Emma Schmalz (Spielman); her husband David Newman; and her siblings, Mabel Engen, Lucyle Tabbert, Opal Parker, Mavis Bratt and Melvin Schmalz.

She is survived by: her children, Mikael Newman (Carol) of Rochester, MN and Lisa Menke (Mark) of Annandale, MN; her grandchildren, Megan Sandgren (Dan) of Wyoming, MN and Jason Born (Samantha) of Rochester, MN; and her great grandchildren, Emilia, Elizabeth Sandgren and Bennett Born.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aldrich School, Zumbro Lutheran Church or Samaritan Bethany.
