He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene Schad and Diane Schad (Marien); his brother Gary; and his parents-in-law, Palmer and Della Mae Obermeyer.

He is survived by: his sons, David Michael of Pella, IA, Benjamin Palmer of Port Orchard, WA and Thomas Christian of Rochester, MN; his wife Gloria Obermeyer; his siblings, Sheree Schad of Minneapolis, MN, Kristine Sanborn (Jay) of Mazeppa, MN, Gregory Schad (Lori Zabel) of Plainview, MN and Douglas Schad (Dean Carere) of Palm Springs, CA; and his siblings-in-law, Janeen Perry (Eugene) of Grand Island, NE, Dorinda Obermeyer of Fairmont, MN, Jolaine McMahon (Tim) of Altus, OK, Brenda Blanshan of Albert Lea, MN and David Obermeyer (Sara) of Walters, MN. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial gifts be given to Bethel Lutheran Church, where they will be directed to the Property Fund.
