He was predeceased by: his father Richard "Trick" Thiem; and his niece Alyssa Thiem. He is survived by: his mother Patricia Thiem (Sutton); his son Cory Bale of Rochester, MN; his siblings, Cheri Ness (Kevin) of Rochester, MN, Lori Rigotti (Mike) and Dan Thiem (Kelly) of Zumbro Falls, MN; and his nieces and nephews, Jen Amaris (Zeke), Jayden Guillette, Leo Zimmerman, Brian Ness (Kaley), Hadlee Ness, Kelsey Thiem, Dylan Thiem (Steph), Alex Thorn (Angie), Kevin Rigotti (Colleen), Ravenna Rigotti and Kirsten Rigotti.

Memorials may be given to Paws and Claws & Camp Companion for his love of animals.
