She was predeceased by: her parents, Edwin Johnston and Violet Johnston (Severson); her daughter Heather Marie; her siblings, Eddy and Gail; her in-laws, Jim and Gladys Helgeson; her brothers-in-law, Richard Johnson, Richard Stai and Richard Smebak; and her nephews, Mitchell Johnston, Scott Johnson, Scott Stai and Brace Stai.
She is survived by: her husband Mark Helgeson; her children, Tonja, Peter (Tonia) and Matthew; her grandchildren, Madalyn Mach (Adam), Morgan Marotte (Frank), Benjamin Helgeson (Hannah), Lauren Helgeson and Melanie Helgeson; her great grandchild Johnny Helgeson; her sister Sally Smebak; and her in-laws, Dixie Johnston, Sharon Stai, Roger Helgeson (Ruth Ann) and David Helgeson (Judy). She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 8th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Helgeson Funeral Home (1207 3rd St NE, Roseau, MN 56751). A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 9th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Messiah Lutheran Church (502 9th Ave NE, Roseau, MN 56751).
She donated 90% of the profits to the American Cancer Society.
