He was predeceased by : his parents, Edmund H. Schaefer, Sr. and Anna Keske (Michels); his stepparents, Ben Keske and Betty Schaefer; and his siblings, Palmer Keske, Harold Keske, Willis Keske, Andrew Schaefer, Lorraine Paggen and Darrel Keske.

He is survived by : his wife Joyce (Hills); his children, Patti Wavey (Ken), Dennis Schaefer (Marlene), Peggy Whitby (Bob) and Cassandra Lidgerding (Jeff); his grandchildren, Kori Whitby, Marcell Mikkelson (Breanne), Kelsey Wavey, Reece Mikkelson, Billy Wavey and Grace Whitby; and his sisters, Louise Shaughnessy (John), Dorothy Gilyard (Lee) and JoAnn Schmiesing.

Visitation was held on Saturday, April 27th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Marcus Catholic Church (8701 Main Ave, Clear Lake, MN 55319). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, April 27th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Marcus Cemetery Fund.
