He was predeceased by: his significant other Marie; and his parents, Valeria Nowak Kowalski and Anthony Kowalski. He is survived by: his children, Joseph M. (Quin), Elaine, Mark and Patrick (Sue); his siblings, Claude, Linda and Mary (Doc); his grandchildren, Brian (Jordan), Kevin, Joe, Mary, Sara (Ben), Taylor and Ian; and his great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jeremy, Lindsey and Rebecca.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marine Corps Association, American Cancer Society, or the American Lung Association Airways Clinical Research Centers Network.
