He was predeceased by: his parents, Murray Patterson (Pat) and Elizabeth Patterson (Betty); and his siblings, Jim Patterson (Shirley) and Betsy Sands (Tim). He is survived by: his sons, Ned and John; his daughters-in-law, Susan Schloff and Julie Sonier; his grandchildren, Sela, Kevin and Tom; and his great grandchildren, Wren and Harper.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Neighborhood House in St. Paul, which provides a welcoming support for refugees, immigrants, and others in transition or crisis.
