He was predeceased by: his parents, John Thomas and Emma Thomas; and his siblings, Sylvester, Richard, John, Olaf, LeRoy, Jim, Mable Wayack and Lorraine Keller.
He is survived by: his wife Karen Thomas of Sandstone, MN; and his children, Russell Thomas, Jr. (Jesse), Steve Thomas, Anthony Thomas (Krystal), Christinia Thomas (Todd), Jammie Thomas-Rassett (Chad), Johnny Thomas (Brenda) and Richard Thomas. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 26 great- grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers Russell's family has requested the planting of trees in his memory.
