She was predeceased by: her husband Thomas; and her brother Marvin Alvheim. She is survived by: her sibling's children, Kristine Smith (Alvheim), Jamie Bowden (Martin), Molly Martin and Brett Alvheim.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 8th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Washburn McReavy Edina Chapel (5000 W 50th St, Edina, MN 55436).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Sonja's memory to either Gustavus Adolphus College or Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota.
