She was predeceased by: her parents, Toivo Kalander and Edla Kalander; her husband Delmar Himes; her son Eugene (Toshiko); her sisters, Sophie Nikula (Edwin), Lila Hangartner (John) and Mary Nikolai (Erwin); her nieces and nephews, Marlis Runnberg, Ann Striker, Jean Cook, Clyde, Richard Nikula (Judy) and Robert Nikolai; and her great-nephew Richard Nikula Jr..
She is survived by: her daughter Judy Martell; and her grandsons, Roger Martell (Cheryl), Matt Trevor and Sean. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
After suffering CoVid in February 2020, at the age of 100, her health and memory declined rapidly.
Ruth was involved in all fundraisers and surveys including the American Cancer Society research for Finland, and also for the Silver Bay area.
