The memory of Caroline Mathiowetz of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, who passed away on July 13, 2025 at the age of 86, will forever remain in the hearts of those touched by this precious presence in their lives. She was predeceased by: her parents, Henry Rothmeier and Theresa Rothmeier (Fink); her husband Edward Mathiowetz of Sleepy Eye; her siblings, Clarence, Richard Rothmeier and Delores Bassuyt; and her siblings-in-law, Devota Rothmeier and Donald Bassuyt.
She is survived by: her daughters, Brenda Sand (Mark) of Avon, MN, Teresa (Lavern Hauser) of New Ulm, MN and Joan Barkosky (Marc) of Amboy, MN; her grandchildren, Brandon Sand (Gemma), Bryan Sand (Erin Ellefson), Brittany Stay (Brian), Blake Sand (Thuan), Matthew, Jesse Sand, Seth Barkosky (Cherie), Cassaundra, Breanna, Victoria, Vanessa and Tabitha Barkosky; and her great grandchildren, Jordyn, Kyrah, Damian, Avery Sand, Aubree, Sebastian, Lila Stay, Evelynn and Grayson Barkosky.
A rosary will be held on Friday, July 18th 2025 from 3:30 PM to 3:45 PM at the Sturm Funeral Home (301 3rd Ave SW, Sleepy Eye, MN 56085). Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, July 19th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the same location. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 19th 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Saturday, July 19th 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery - Sleepy Eye (602 St Marys St NE, Sleepy Eye, MN 56085).
