He was loved and cherished by many people including: wife: Ann; daughters: Annie (Jim) Cole, Rosaline (Shawn) Groven; grandchildren: Linda (Caleb) Quinn, Tati (Lane) Cole, Francie (Nate) Pahl, Ben (Trystan) Groven, Katerina (Tyler) Groven, Nicholas (Karly) Groven, Sebastian (Harlow) Groven, Theodore Groven, Kyla Butcher; great-grandchildren: Sherman Groven, Lyra Groven, Ambrose, Atticux, Athena, Asa; son: David (deceased); parents: Jacob and Katherina Hoffert (deceased); brothers: Othmar and Daniel Hoffert (deceased); brother-in-law: Wild Bill; sisters-in-law: Mary Sullivan and Nancy Hoffert; in-laws: William K. and Genevieve Sullivan (deceased); uncle: Casmier; other: Father Craig Vasek, Koda and Chucky; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 9th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the St. Bernard's Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 9th 2026 at 12:15 PM at the same location. In 1999, Sal and Ann moved to Thief River Falls, where they stayed busy earning the RSVP Ballroom Dancing Award (16), Heritage Center Volunteer of the Year (08 & 18), and the Clayton Sordahla Volunteer Award (14).
