He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Akerson and Glenda Akerson (Johnson); his mother-in-law Margaret Leaf; his wife Ginger Lynn Garman; his brothers, Ronald and Jeff; and his nephew John Schlegel.
He is survived by: his children, Jason Akerson (Mandy) of Britt, MN and Jarin Houdek (Nathan) of Eveleth, MN; his grandsons, Kaden, Beau and Ethan Akerson; his children, Livia and Grayson Houdek; his half-sister Tanya Akerson of Watkins, MN; his sister-in-law Kristin Schlegel (Brian) of Blomkest, MN; his father-in-law Roland Leaf of Willmar, MN; his nephews, Shane Akerson (Lisa), Kyle Akerson (Cassie) and Chad Akerson; and his niece Kaitlin Budish (Jason).
