He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Broten and Edna Broten (Fugelberg); his brother Milo; and his sons, Timothy and Daniel.

He is survived by: his wife Adeline Gust; his children, Lori Schulze (Jeff), Lisa Broten (Gordon Dunkeld), Yvonne Broten and David Broten (Joan); his daughter-in-law Brenda Broten; his grandchildren, Savannah Schulze, Alexandra Prieve (Alex), Laura Schulze (John), Cody Schulze (Kara), Raichle Dunkeld (Ben), Alec Dunkeld, Dean Broten (Brianna), Barbara Broten-Lundstrom (Zachary), Brianna Soby, Katrina Blocker (Kelly) and Anthony Broten (Tristan); his great grandchildren, Boone Broten, Hux Broten, Forrest Prieve, Stella Lundstrom, Harlan Lundstrom, Leona Broten and Rosie Broten; and his friend Greg Pishler.

He was a dedicated community member donating concrete work for many projects.
