He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Schultz and Olga Schultz (Kratzke); his brother Kermit; and his brother-in-law LeRoy Kicker. He is survived by: his wife Carol Frank; his children, Annette (Tim Rice), Deborah (Chris Brenk), Kathleen (Joe Mickelson), Mark Schultz and Daniel Schultz (Val); his grandchildren, Jared Rice, Lindsey Wolff, Zoe Bruininga (Kaleb), Caleb Rice (Joanna), Danielle Stolee (Tom), Hannah Halbakken (Luke), Brandon Mickelson, Tarrin Lindsay (Alex), Gavin Mickelson, Austen Schultz (Hanna) and Mesa Schultz; his sisters, Ardyce Kicker and Darlene Carlisle (Orville); and his sister-in-law Marie Schultz.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gideons, an organization that Melvin felt strongly about.
