She is survived by: her daughter Shari Brazil of Hibbing; her boyfriend George Croft; her siblings, Judith Renmoe and Roger Nelmark; her siblings-in-law, Bill Kauppinen (Elaine) and Debbie Esselstrom; and her nieces and nephews, Steve Nelmark, Billy, Tom, Julie Kauppinen, Alayna Esselstrom, Peter Pomaville, Jody Nelmark, Michael Nelmark, Marla Padgett and Nikki Johnson.

After John's death in 2006, Marlene started the John Kauppinen Law Enforcement Scholarship Foundation.
