He was predeceased by: his mothers, June Schafer and Lillian Schafer (Denniston); and his wife Genevieve R. Hess. He is survived by: his sisters, Joyce Ziemek and Judy Ries; his children, Craig Schafer, Blair Schafer (Deb), Jodi Earhart (Curt) and LeeAnne Larsen (Phil); his daughter-in-law Sandra Schafer; and his grandchildren, Dan, Nicole, Alison, Lindsey, Robyn, Eric, Dana, Grant, Madeline and Marit. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 from 10:15 AM to 11:00 AM at the Westwood Community Church (3121 Westwood Dr, Excelsior, MN 55331). A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Westwood Community Church or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
