With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Viola Mary Backes of Waite Park, Minnesota, who passed away on April 30, 2026 at the age of 94. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Mathias Spanier and Frances Spanier; her husbands, Carl Backes and Elmer Schwinghammer; and her daughter Cheryl.

She is survived by: her children, Bonnie (Tim), Steve (Karen), Joni (Phil), Jack (Peggy), Marion (Billy), Brian, Loren, Susie and Paula; her son-in-law Tanni; her siblings, Delores and Orville; and her stepsons, Mike and Mark. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren; numerous great- grandchildren.
