He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. William F. Hartfiel and Marie Hartfiel; and his sister Helen Comfort. He is survived by: his wife Helen Janney Case; and his children, Jim (Martha), Ned, Bob (Marnie), Mary Jackley (Jay) and Rick Hartfiel (Kate).
